The Finnish Nature Day is celebrated on Saturday, 25th of August, 2018. What would be a better way to celebrate it than to head outdoors?
There are many events organized around the country on this Saturday to celebrate what we Finns value the most, our nature. You can find out more about the day and its celebrations from the official website of the Finnish Nature Day, maintained by Parks & Wildlife Finland, Metsähallitus.
For example Eerikkilä Sport & Outdoor Resort is organizing an event for the whole family by Ruostejärvi lake. Ant trail starts at 12:00 and Our Forest trail at 15:00, highlighting the Finnish Nature. These activities are free-of-charge.
Ruostejärvi Recreation Area is located in the municipality of Tammela by Härkätie Road and near main road 2. It is a very popular place for hiking and it also has a nice beach with shallow water. There is about 300 meters walk from the parking lot to the beach. There are toilets and picnic tables in the area. The Eerikkilä Sport & Outdoor Resort is located about 3 km away from the beach, on the other side of the lake.

While visiting Ruostejärvi, we also highly recommend you to stop by at Korteniemi Heritage Farm. It is still open this summer, until the end of September. Korteniemi is the only forest ranger estate in South of Finland, where the buildings and grounds have remained intact. During summer the farm is home to some indigenous Finnish farm animals such as horses, cows, sheep, chickens and a rooster. Old Finnish crops are farmed by traditional methods. Visiting Korteniemi Heritage Farm is also free-of-charge.
